H.R. No. 1019
         WHEREAS, A life made rich through meaningful service drew to
  a close with the passing of Richard C. Hawkins of Weslaco on
  December 14, 2012, at the age of 64; and
         WHEREAS, Born in Bridgeport on April 4, 1948, to Raymond
  Hawkins and Helen Schilling, Rick Hawkins graduated from Bridgeport
  High School in 1967, and two years later he received a diploma in
  funeral directing and the science of embalming from Commonwealth
  College of Sciences in Houston; and
         WHEREAS, For a brief time, Mr. Hawkins was a professional
  bull rider and race car driver; he embarked on a career in the
  funeral home business in 1970, when he joined the staff of Shannon's
  Funeral Home in Fort Worth; he eventually became the manager there,
  and in 1982, he relocated to Weslaco, purchasing his own funeral
  home; in 1992, Mr. Hawkins moved his business to a new location, and
  in 2004 he expanded it, adding a branch in Donna; as a funeral home
  director, he emphasized customer service and was known for the
  respect and kindness with which he treated his staff; and
         WHEREAS, Mr. Hawkins was an active member of the community as
  well, serving on the Weslaco Ambulance Advisory Board, with the
  Weslaco Lions Club, and with the Mid-Valley Medical Foundation; in
  addition, he contributed to local charities; in his spare time, he
  liked to golf, and he also studied Freemasonry; and
         WHEREAS, In all of his endeavors, Mr. Hawkins enjoyed the
  love and support of his wife, Irma, and he took pride in a fine
  family that grew to include two children and a granddaughter; and
         WHEREAS, Rick Hawkins lived a full and generous life,
  devoting himself to his family, his business, and his community,
  and while his death has brought great sorrow, his legacy of love and
  service to others will be forever treasured by all who knew him;
  now, therefore, be it
         RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 83rd Texas
  Legislature hereby pay tribute to the memory of Rick Hawkins and
  that sincere condolences be extended to the members of his family:
  to his wife, Irma S. Hawkins; to his daughter, Priscilla Hawkins;
  to his son, Ronnye Hawkins; to his granddaughter, Bianka Hawkins
  Jackson; to his son-in-law, Erik Jackson; and to his other
  relatives and friends; and, be it further
         RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
  prepared for his family and that when the Texas House of
  Representatives adjourns this day, it do so in memory of Richard
  C. Hawkins.
