R E S O L U T I O N
 
         WHEREAS, Family and friends will long cherish their memories
  of James Byston Parks, Jr., of San Antonio who passed away on
  February 19, 2012, at the age of 61; and
         WHEREAS, Jimmy Parks was born to James Byston Parks, Sr., and
  Juanita Midgett Parks on December 18, 1950, in Uvalde; as a student
  at Churchill High School, Mr. Parks excelled in both academics and
  athletics and was offered a full scholarship to Princeton
  University; he turned down the opportunity in order to stay in Texas
  and marry his high school sweetheart, the former Liz Byrd;
  Mr. Parks instead enrolled at Trinity University on a football and
  academic scholarship, and he helped support his family while in
  college by selling cookware door-to-door; for his efforts,
  Mr. Parks earned the National Salesman of the Year Award, and after
  graduating from Trinity, he started his own business in the office
  equipment industry to fund his graduate studies at the St. Mary's
  University School of Law; and
         WHEREAS, Over the course of the next 33 years, Mr. Parks
  established himself as one of San Antonio's most successful defense
  attorneys; he represented a number of high-profile clients and
  produced the Winning in the Courtroom DVD series, and he was
  recognized by S.A.Scene, Texas Monthly, and Texas Super Lawyers;
  and
         WHEREAS, In addition to his professional achievements,
  Mr. Parks was a proud and caring father to his children, "Jimbo" and
  Tina; he coached his son's soccer team to numerous state
  championships and two national quarterfinal games, and he served as
  president of the North East Youth Soccer Organization of San
  Antonio; when his grandchildren began participating in sports,
  Mr. Parks was always in the stands cheering them on, camera in hand;
  and
         WHEREAS, A distinguished attorney and a devoted family man,
  Jimmy Parks gave of his time and energy without reservation, and the
  humor, integrity, and compassion with which he lived his life will
  forever inspire all those who held him dear; now, therefore, be it
         RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 83rd Texas
  Legislature hereby pay tribute to the memory of James Byston Parks,
  Jr., and extend sincere sympathy to the members of his family: to
  his wife, Liz Parks; to his son, James Byston Parks III; to his
  daughter, Tina Allen, and her husband, James; to his mother,
  Juanita Parks; to his sister, Sharon Hatley, and her husband,
  Richard; to his brother, Bradley Parks; to his grandchildren,
  Brenden Parks, Makayla Allen, Faith Allen, and James Allen, Jr.;
  and to his other relatives and friends; and, be it further
         RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
  prepared for his family and that when the Texas House of
  Representatives adjourns this day, it do so in memory of Jimmy
  Parks.
