A BILL TO BE ENTITLED
|
|
|
AN ACT
|
|
|
relating to an accident resulting in the possible death or injury of |
|
|
a person. |
|
|
|
|
|
BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS: |
|
|
SECTION 1. Section 551.021(a), Transportation Code, is |
|
|
amended to read as follows: |
|
|
(a) The operator of a vehicle involved in an accident |
|
|
resulting in injury to or death of a person, or the possible injury |
|
|
to or death of a person shall: |
|
|
(1) immediately stop the vehicle at the scene of the |
|
|
accident or as close to the scene as possible; |
|
|
(2) immediately return to the scene of the accident; |
|
|
(3) immediately determine if a person is involved in |
|
|
the accident, and if that person requires aid, and |
|
|
(4) remain at the scene of the accident until the |
|
|
operator complies with the requirements of Section 550.023. |
|
|
SECTION 2. This Act takes effect immediately if it receives |
|
|
a vote of two-thirds of all the members elected to each house, as |
|
|
provided by Section 39, Article III, Texas Constitution. If this |
|
|
Act does not receive the vote necessary for immediate effect, this |
|
|
Act takes effect September 1, 2013. |
