A BILL TO BE ENTITLED
 
AN ACT
  relating to the eligibility requirements for electrician licenses
  issued to applicants with military service.
         BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS:
         SECTION 1.  Subchapter D, Chapter 1305, Occupations Code, is
  amended by adding Section 1305.1645 to read as follows:
         Sec. 1305.1645.  APPLICANT WITH MILITARY SERVICE. (a) In
  this section, "military" means the armed forces of the United
  States, Texas National Guard, or Texas State Guard.
         (b)  The executive director shall credit relevant
  experience, training, or education in electrical work that an
  applicant received while serving in the military toward the
  licensing requirements for a license issued under this chapter.
         (c)  The commission shall adopt rules necessary to implement
  this section.
         SECTION 2.  (a) Section 1305.1645, Occupations Code, as
  added by this Act, applies only to an application for a license
  filed on or after May 1, 2014. An application for a license filed
  before May 1, 2014, is governed by the law in effect on the date the
  application was filed, and that law is continued in effect for that
  purpose.
         (b)  The Texas Commission of Licensing and Regulation shall
  adopt rules under Section 1305.1645, Occupations Code, as added by
  this Act, not later than March 1, 2014.
         SECTION 3.  This Act takes effect immediately if it receives
  a vote of two-thirds of all the members elected to each house, as
  provided by Section 39, Article III, Texas Constitution.  If this
  Act does not receive the vote necessary for immediate effect, this
  Act takes effect September 1, 2013.
