SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 64
|
|
|
WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is pleased to |
|
|
recognize Dr. George C. Wright on the occasion of his 10th |
|
|
anniversary as president of Prairie View A&M University; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, Dr. Wright joined Prairie View A&M University |
|
|
after having served as executive vice president for academic |
|
|
affairs and provost at The University of Texas at Arlington; his |
|
|
experience also includes service at Duke University and at The |
|
|
University of Texas at Austin, where he was the holder of the |
|
|
Mastin Gentry White Professorship of Southern History; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, Under his exemplary leadership, Prairie View A&M |
|
|
University has continued to fulfill its mission as a land-grant |
|
|
college and achieve excellence in teaching, research, and |
|
|
service; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, An acknowledged scholar in his field, Dr. Wright |
|
|
has been published in numerous journals and has written several |
|
|
books, including A History of Blacks in Kentucky: In Pursuit of |
|
|
Equality, 1890-1980, Volume II and the award-winning Racial |
|
|
Violence in Kentucky, 1865-1940: Lynchings, Mob Rule, and "Legal |
|
|
Lynchings"; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, Dr. Wright has received many fellowships, grants, |
|
|
and awards for his exemplary work, and he has been active in a |
|
|
number of professional and civic organizations; he is truly |
|
|
deserving of recognition for his many accomplishments; now, |
|
|
therefore, be it |
|
|
RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 83rd |
|
|
Legislature, 2nd Called Session, hereby commend Dr. George C. |
|
|
Wright on his exceptional service as president of Prairie View |
|
|
A&M University and extend to him best wishes for continued |
|
|
success in all his endeavors; and, be it further |
|
|
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for |
|
|
him as an expression of esteem from the Texas Senate. |
