R E S O L U T I O N
         WHEREAS, The citizens of Hidalgo County lost an esteemed
  legal advocate and a friend to many with the passing of David Haddon
  Hockema on July 1, 2013, at the age of 65; and
         WHEREAS, Born in Temple on November 18, 1947, David Hockema
  was the son of Max Westley Hockema and Sarah Bedwell Hockema; he
  graduated from Kilgore High School and went on to attend the
  University of Arizona as a Division I college athlete; later
  transferring to The University of Texas at Austin, he earned a
  bachelor's degree in political science as part of the Plan II Honors
  program and later obtained his doctor of jurisprudence degree from
  the UT School of Law in 1973; and
         WHEREAS, He ultimately established his legal career in
  Hidalgo County, where he represented clients from every walk of
  life; passionate about litigation and defending the underserved,
  Mr. Hockema relished the opportunity to prove his mettle against
  "big city" lawyers, and his keen legal acumen earned him a
  well-deserved reputation for excellence; he was a member of the
  prestigious International Academy of Trial Lawyers and the American
  Board of Trial Advocates, and he was named a "Texas Super Lawyer"
  every year for more than a decade; he truly loved his work, and even
  while ill, he continued to work on cases from his hospital room; and
         WHEREAS, Mr. Hockema was preceded in death by his first wife,
  Yvonne; fortunate to find love again, he shared a rewarding
  marriage with his second wife, Nora, and together they took
  frequent trips to Europe and South America; moreover, he was the
  devoted father of seven children, Anne-Elise, Jared, Jenna,
  Kathleen, Weslee, Perri, and Lauren; and
         WHEREAS, This dynamic Texan delighted in outdoor activities,
  especially fishing, and he enjoyed many happy times on the water
  with friends; he was also known for his generosity and his sense of
  humor; and
         WHEREAS, David Hockema was an attorney of great skill and
  compassion, and though his death has brought immense sorrow to his
  loved ones, he leaves behind a legacy that will long be treasured by
  all those who were privileged to know him; now, therefore, be it
         RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 83rd Texas
  Legislature, 2nd Called Session, hereby pay tribute to the life of
  David Haddon Hockema and extend sincere sympathy to the members of
  his family: to his wife, Nora Hockema; to his children, Jared
  Haddon, Jenna Leigh, Kathleen Elise, Weslee Anne, Perri Laine, and
  Lauren Isabella Hockema; to his father- and mother-in-law, Leo and
  Mary Longoria; and to his other relatives and friends; and, be it
  further
         RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
  prepared for his family and that when the Texas House of
  Representatives adjourns this day, it do so in memory of David
  Haddon Hockema.
