CONCURRENT RESOLUTION
         WHEREAS, The 90th birthday of an esteemed Texan is truly
  cause for celebration, and James Oran McCorquodale of Austin is
  reaching that impressive milestone on October 4, 2013; and
         WHEREAS, A native of Midway, "Corky" McCorquodale grew up on
  his grandparents' farm, where he helped with a variety of chores; he
  moved to Conroe at age 16, graduated from the local high school in
  1940, and became the first in his family to attend college; he
  studied liberal arts at Southwestern University until 1943, when he
  answered his nation's call to arms during World War II; and
         WHEREAS, Mr. McCorquodale enlisted in the U.S. Navy, and in
  1944 he was commissioned an ensign at Northwestern University; as a
  first gunnery officer on USS 449, Beach Lizard, he commanded a
  section of the ship's armory and helped deliver supplies and
  retrieve wounded soldiers from several major battlefields in the
  Pacific theater, including Guam, Iwo Jima, and Okinawa; at war's
  end, he returned to school and completed his degree, later
  returning to active duty for a time during the Korean War; and
         WHEREAS, Sharing a rewarding marriage with the former Beverly
  Joyce "Jobo" Hobbs since 1950, Mr. McCorquodale is the proud father
  of three children, James "Jimmy" Reagan, Kenneth "Kenny" Lee, and
  Teresa "T" Ann, and today his family also includes eight adored
  grandchildren; and
         WHEREAS, Through the years, Mr. McCorquodale held such
  diverse jobs as host of "Corky's Kountry Korner" at KMOX Radio in
  Conroe, manager of the Austin Club, and artist and salesperson for
  the Whitley Printing Company in Austin; and
         WHEREAS, This remarkable gentleman continues to delight his
  friends and loved ones with his charm, wit, and generous spirit, and
  it is a pleasure to join in honoring him on nine decades of life well
  lived; now, therefore, be it
         RESOLVED, That the 83rd Legislature of the State of Texas,
  2nd Called Session, hereby congratulate James Oran McCorquodale on
  his 90th birthday and extend to him heartfelt best wishes for
  continued happiness; and, be it further
         RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
  prepared for Mr. McCorquodale as an expression of high regard by
  the Texas House of Representatives and Senate.
