R E S O L U T I O N
|
|
|
WHEREAS, The death of Leo Edward Linbeck, Jr., of Houston on |
|
June 8, 2013, at the age of 78, has deeply saddened the family and |
|
friends of this admired civic leader; and |
|
WHEREAS, Mr. Linbeck was born on August 12, 1934, to Patti |
|
Ruth Linbeck and Leon Linbeck, Sr.; he graduated from the |
|
University of Notre Dame and briefly attended The University of |
|
Texas School of Law before joining the Linbeck Group, a |
|
construction management firm established by his father; having |
|
started as a carpenter, he rose to become senior chair of the |
|
company, and his exceptional skill, energy, and vision enabled it |
|
to flourish despite the challenges of changing business cycles; |
|
during his tenure of more than a half-century with the firm, the |
|
Linbeck Group became one of the largest construction enterprises in |
|
the Southwest, building offices, hospitals, museums, shopping |
|
centers, and other facilities; and |
|
WHEREAS, Over the years, Mr. Linbeck benefited numerous |
|
organizations through his leadership; he served as a director and |
|
chair of the Federal Reserve Bank of Dallas and as a director of the |
|
Federal Reserve Bank of Dallas-Houston Branch; in addition, he was |
|
a director of the Bionomics Institute, Daniel Industries, GeoQuest |
|
International Holdings, International Systems & Controls, John |
|
Hancock Advisers, MorningStar Foods, and the Southland |
|
Corporation; he served Notre Dame as chair of the Advisory Council |
|
for the College of Engineering, and he further shared his expertise |
|
as a member of the Institutional Initiatives Committee of The |
|
University of Texas M. D. Anderson Cancer Center; moreover, he |
|
chaired the Special Commission on the 1999 Bonfire for Texas A&M |
|
University; and |
|
WHEREAS, Mr. Linbeck also made his mark as a cofounder of |
|
Texans for Lawsuit Reform and Americans for Fair Taxation; a major |
|
force in the political arena, TLR has worked to shape policy |
|
regarding civil lawsuits and, more recently, matters such as public |
|
education; and |
|
WHEREAS, In addition to public policy, Mr. Linbeck's many |
|
avocations included golfing, hunting, and fishing; always an |
|
engaging conversationalist, he had the ability to find a topic of |
|
mutual interest to discuss with anyone he might meet; he was a |
|
lifelong parishioner of St. Anne Catholic Church, and he expressed |
|
his strong faith and compassion through his daily actions; and |
|
WHEREAS, This esteemed Texan was preceded in death by his |
|
wife of 41 years, Connie Linbeck; fortunate to find love a second |
|
time, he exchanged wedding vows with Bette Craddock Pressler in |
|
2004; and |
|
WHEREAS, Leo Linbeck achieved a life of purposefulness and |
|
service, and those who were fortunate enough to know him will |
|
forever remember his devotion to his family, his community, his |
|
state, and his nation; now, therefore, be it |
|
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 83rd Texas |
|
Legislature, 1st Called Session, hereby pay tribute to the memory |
|
of Leo Edward Linbeck, Jr., and extend sincere sympathy to his loved |
|
ones: to his wife, Bette Linbeck; to his children, Tammy Casey, Leo |
|
Linbeck III, Betsy Garibaldi, Andrew Linbeck, Patrick Linbeck, and |
|
Mary Clark Granberry; to his stepchildren, Terry Smith, Townes |
|
Pressler, and Molly Lamme; to his sons-in-law, Bob Casey, John |
|
Garibaldi, Chris Granberry, Duncan Lamme, and Tommy Smith; to his |
|
daughters-in-law, Bayard Linbeck, Ellen Linbeck, Shanna Linbeck, |
|
and Kathleen Pressler; to his grandchildren, Anna Claire, Berhane, |
|
Carolina, Caroline, Christopher, Claire, Danielle, Duncan, Edward, |
|
Emily, Forrest, Francisco, Genevieve, Henry, Julie, Katherine, |
|
Leo, Lindy, Maddox, Matthew, Miranda, Robert, Ruth, Savanna, |
|
Thomas, Timothy, and Townes; to his sisters, Poppy Doyle and |
|
Suzanne Reynolds; to his brothers-in-law, Stokes A. Baird, Larry |
|
Craddock, Peter Doyle, and Fisher Reynolds; to his sisters-in-law, |
|
Mary Scott Baird and Mary Craddock; and to his many other relatives |
|
and friends; and, be it further |
|
RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be |
|
prepared for his family and that when the Texas House of |
|
Representatives adjourns this day, it do so in memory of Leo |
|
Linbeck. |
