Pursuant to a notice posted in accordance with Senate Rule 11.10 and 11.18, a public hearing of the Senate Committee on Nominations was held on Monday, February 21, 2011, in the Capitol Extension, Room E1.028, at Austin, Texas.

The chair called the meeting to order at 9:01 A.M. There being a quorum present, the following business was transacted:

 

Senator Watson moved adoption of the minutes from the previous hearing held on February 14, 2011; without objection, it was so ordered.

 

Senator Watson introduced Employee Retirement System of Texas Trustee Ira Craig Hester. Mr. Hester made an opening statement and answered questions from the members of the committee.

 

Senator Watson moved that the committee approve the nomination of Ira Craig Hester to the Employee Retirement System of Texas Board of Trustees. The motion carried with a record vote of 4 ayes, 0 nays, 0 present not voting and 3 absent.

 

Senator Watson introduced Commissioner of Workers’ Compensation Roderick Borderlon, Jr. Commissioner Borderlon made opening remarks and answered questions from the members of the committee. Chairman Deuell announced that the nomination of Roderick Borderlon, Jr. as Commissioner of Workers’ Compensation will be left pending before the committee.

 

Senator Watson introduced Ronald Congleton of the Texas Workforce Commission. Commissioner Congleton made opening remarks and answered questions from the members of the committee.

 

Senator Watson moved that the committee vote to approve the nomination of Ronald Congleton to the Texas Workforce Commission. The motion carried with a record vote of 4 ayes, 0 nays, 0 present not voting and 3 absent.

 

Senator Rodriguez moved that committee vote to approve the non-appearing nominees to the following entities: Automobile Burglary and Theft Prevention Authority, Cameron County Regional Mobility Authority, Central Texas Regional Mobility Authority, Evergreen Underground Water Conservation District, Grayson County Regional Mobility Authority, Gulf Coast Waste Disposal Authority, Hidalgo County Regional Mobility Authority, Jefferson and Orange County Board of Pilot Commissioners, North East Texas Regional Mobility Authority, Red River Authority of Texas, Sulphur River Regional Mobility Authority, Texas Board of Professional Engineers, Texas State Board of Examiners of Dietitians, and Texas State Board of Plumbing Examiners. The motion carried with a record vote of 4 ayes, 0 nays, 0 present not voting, and 3 absent.

 

There being no further business, at 9:28 A.M. Senator Deuell moved that the Committee stand recessed subject to the call of the chair. Without objection, it was so ordered.
