Pursuant to suspension of Senate Rule 11.10 and 11.18, a public hearing of the Senate Subcommittee on Fiscal Matters was held on Tuesday, March 22, 2011, in the Capitol Extension, Room E1.036, at Austin, Texas.

The chair called the meeting to order at 8:33 AM. There being a quorum present, the following business was transacted:

 

Senator Duncan made opening remarks to the committee.  The chair then assigned research tasks to members of the subcommittee.  Members and their assignments are listed below.

 

Senator West and Senator Williams were assigned the following:  maximize utility of all state assets, including: a) funds outside the Treasury; b) permanent endowment funds; c) education reserve funds; and d) sale of surplus property.

 

Senator Eltife and Senator Zaffirini were assigned the following:  maximize use of GR-D funds.

 

Senator Deuell and Senator Zaffirini were assigned the following:  consider statutory changes embedded in CSHB 1 and review state fees.

 

Senator Patrick and Senator West were assigned the following:  improve efficiency of tax collection and review utility of exiting tax exemptions.

 

There being no further business, at 8:40 AM Senator Duncan moved that the Committee stand recessed subject to the call of the chair. Without objection, it was so ordered.
