Pursuant to a notice posted in accordance with
Senate Rule 11.10 and 11.18, a public hearing of the Senate Committee on
Education was held on Thursday, June 2, 2011, in the Capitol Extension, Room
E1.028, at Austin, Texas.

The chair called the meeting to order at 9:33 AM.
There being a quorum present, the following business was transacted:

At 9:34 AM Senator Patrick assumed the chair.
The chair laid out SB 6 and recognized the author,
Senator Shapiro, to explain the bill.
Witnesses testifying and registering on the bill are shown on the
attached list. The chair moved that the public testimony be closed; without
objection, it was so ordered. Senator
Shapiro moved that SB 6 be reported favorably to the Senate with the
recommendation that it do pass and be printed. The motion carried with a record
vote of 7 ayes, 0 nays, 0 present not voting, and 2 absent.
At 10:01 AM Senator Shapiro resumed the chair.
At 10:01 AM Senator Shapiro moved that the committee
stand in recess until 10:15 AM; without objection, it was so ordered.
Senator
Shapiro reconvened the meeting at 10:16 AM.
At 10:16 AM Senator Patrick assumed the chair.
The chair laid out SB 8 and recognized the author,
Senator Shapiro, to explain the bill.
At 10:27 AM Senator Seliger assumed the chair.
At 10:41 AM Senator Patrick assumed the chair.
Witnesses testifying and registering on the bill are
shown on the attached list.
The
chair moved that the public testimony be left pending; without objection, it
was so ordered.
The
chair left the bill pending.
At 11:39 AM Senator Shapiro resumed the chair.
At 11:39 AM Senator Shapiro moved that the committee
stand in recess temporarily; without objection, it was so ordered.
Senator
Patrick assumed the chair and reconvened the meeting at 12:04 PM.
As a matter of pending business,
the chair resumed public testimony on SB 8. Witnesses testifying and
registering on the bill are shown on the attached list.
The chair moved that the public
testimony be left pending; without objection, it was so
ordered.
The chair left the bill pending.
There being no further business,
at 12:48 PM Senator Patrick moved that the Committee stand
recessed until 30 minutes after
the adjournment of the Senate. Without objection, it was so ordered.

Seliger reconvened the meeting at 2:04 PM.
As
a matter of pending business, the chair resumed public testimony on SB 8.

2:41 PM Senator Shapiro resumed the chair.
There
being no further business, at 2:41 PM Senator Shapiro moved that the Committee
stand recessed subject to the call of the chair. Without objection, it was so
ordered.
