A BILL TO BE ENTITLED
|
|
|
AN ACT
|
|
|
relating to the award of a distinction designation to a public |
|
|
school campus. |
|
|
BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS: |
|
|
SECTION 1. Section 39.203, Education Code, is amended by |
|
|
amending Subsection (c) and adding Subsection (d) to read as |
|
|
follows: |
|
|
(c) In addition to the distinction designations described |
|
|
by Subsections (a) and (b), a campus that satisfies the criteria |
|
|
developed under Section 39.204 shall be awarded a distinction |
|
|
designation by the commissioner for the following programs or the |
|
|
following specific categories of performance: |
|
|
(1) academic achievement in English language arts, |
|
|
mathematics, science, or social studies; |
|
|
(2) fine arts; |
|
|
(3) physical and health education and wellness; |
|
|
(4) 21st Century Workforce Development program; and |
|
|
(5) second language acquisition program. |
|
|
(d) The commissioner may establish partnerships with |
|
|
private and nonprofit entities to provide monetary and in-kind |
|
|
rewards to campuses that receive a distinction designation under |
|
|
this section. |

|
SECTION 2. This Act takes effect September 1, 2011. |
