AN ACT
|
|
relating to the definition of local law enforcement authority for |
|
purposes of the sex offender registration program. |
|
BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS: |
|
SECTION 1. Article 62.001(2), Code of Criminal Procedure, |
|
is amended to read as follows: |
|
(2) "Local law enforcement authority" means, as |
|
applicable, the office of the chief of police of a municipality, the |
|
office of the sheriff of a county in this state, or a centralized |
|
registration authority. |
|
SECTION 2. This Act takes effect immediately if it receives |
|
a vote of two-thirds of all the members elected to each house, as |
|
provided by Section 39, Article III, Texas Constitution. If this |
|
Act does not receive the vote necessary for immediate effect, this |
|
Act takes effect September 1, 2011. |
