Pursuant to a notice posted in accordance with Senate Rule 11.18, a public hearing of the Senate Committee on Redistricting, Select was held on Monday, September 20, 2010, in the George Allen Courthouse, Dallas, Texas.

The Senate Select Committee on Redistricting held a joint hearing with subcommittees of the House Committee on Redistricting and the House Committee on Judiciary and Civil Jurisprudence.  Representative Dan Branch served as chair of the subcommittee of the House Committee on Redistricting and Representative Aaron Pena served as chair of the subcommittee of the House Committee on Judiciary and Civil Jurisprudence.       

 

Representative Hunter called the meeting to order.  The House committee clerk called roll for the subcommittees of the House Committee on Redistricting and the House Committee on Judiciary and Civil Jurisprudence.  There was a quorum present for both subcommittees.   

 

Representative Hunter made opening remarks.  

 

Senator Seliger called the Senate Select Committee on Redistricting to order at 12:07 p.m.  The clerk called roll.  There was a quorum present.

 

Representatives who are not members of the subcommittees and were present at the hearing were asked to introduce themselves.

 

House members made brief remarks.

 

Senator Seliger made opening remarks.

 

Senate committee members made brief remarks.

 

Senator Shapiro was introduced.    

 

The chairs opened public testimony.  Witnesses who testified are shown on the attached list.  After all witnesses were heard, public testimony was closed.

 

There being no further business, at 2:32 p.m. Senator Williams moved that the Committee stand recessed subject to the call of the chair.  Without objection, it was so ordered.
