Pursuant to suspension of Senate Rule 11.18, an open meeting of the Senate Committee on Nominations was held on Tuesday, April 14, 2009, at Senator Jackson's Desk.

The chair called the meeting to order at 12:50 p.m.  There being a quorum present, the following business was transacted: 

 

Senator Nelson moved adoption of the minutes from the previous hearing held on April 1, 2009; without objection, it was so ordered. 

 

Senator Watson moved that the committee vote to approve the nominations of Robert Scott as the Commissioner of Education; General Jose Mayorga as the Adjutant General of Texas; and the individuals nominated to the Texas Lottery Commission.  At 12:52 p.m., by a vote of 7 ayes and 0 nays, the committee voted to recommend the nominees to the full Senate for confirmation.

 

Senator Nichols moved that the committee vote to approve the nominations of the individuals appointed to the following entities: Governing Board of the Texas School for the Blind and Visually Impaired, Texas Board of Chiropractic Examiners, Texas Forensic Science Commission, Statewide Health Coordinating Council, Texas Health Services Authority Corporation, State Committee of Examiners in the Fitting and Dispensing of Hearing Instruments, Dallas County Judge of the 134th Judicial District Court, Texas State Board of Examiners of Marriage and Family Therapists, Texas Department of Criminal Justice Advisory Committee on Offenders with Medical and Mental Impairments, Texas Underground Facility Notification Corporation (One-Call Board), On-Site Wastewater Treatment Research Council, Texas Optometry Board, Polygraph Examiners Board, Texas Private Security Board, Texas State Board of Examiners of Psychologists, Texas State Board of Social Worker Examiners, and the Texas State Board of Examiners for Speech-Language Pathology and Audiology.  At 12:54 p.m., by a vote of 7 ayes and 0 nays, the committee voted to recommend the nominees to the full Senate for confirmation.

 

The nominees to the Texas Racing Commission were left pending before the committee.

 

At 12:54 p.m. Senator Jackson moved that the committee stand recessed subject to the call of the chair; without objection, it was so ordered.
