Pursuant to a notice posted in accordance with Senate Rule 11.18, a public hearing of the Senate Committee on State Affairs was held on Wednesday, July 14, 2010, in the Senate Chamber.

The chair called the meeting to order at 9:09 a.m.  The following business was transacted: 

 

The Committee heard invited and public testimony regarding Interim Charge 6:  Study ways to improve the efficiency and accuracy of voter registration rolls, including the feasibility and security of online registration and automatic registration and the accuracy of verification and purging of voters. Recommend ways to ensure that deceased or otherwise ineligible voters are not included on rolls while also ensuring that all eligible applicants are efficiently registered.

 

Witnesses testifying and registering on the charge are shown on the attached list. 

 

Senator Van de Putte assumed the chair. 

 

Senator Duncan resumed the chair. 

 

The chair moved that the public testimony be closed on Interim Charge 6; without objection, it was so ordered. 

 

The committee heard invited and public testimony regarding Interim Charge 12:  Study and make recommendations regarding access to voting by members of the military serving in the United States and abroad, including the feasibility of electronic delivery of ballots.

 

Witnesses testifying and registering on the charge are shown on the attached list.

 

Senator Lucio, Jr. assumed the chair. 

 

Senator Duncan resumed the chair. 

 

The chair moved that the public testimony on Interim Charge 12 be closed; without objection, it was so ordered. 

 

There being no further business, at 12:25 p.m. Senator Duncan moved that the Committee stand recessed subject to the call of the chair.  Without objection, it was so ordered.
