Pursuant to a notice posted in accordance with Senate Rule 11.18, a public hearing of the Senate Committee on Jurisprudence was held on Thursday, June 24, 2010, in the Capitol Extension, Room E1.016, in Austin, Texas.

The chair called the meeting to order at 1:02 p.m.  There being a quorum present, the following business was transacted: 

 

The clerk called roll.  There was a quorum present. 

 

Senator Harris moved adoption of the minutes from the previous hearing held on May 13, 2010; without objection, it was so ordered. 

 

The chair laid out Interim Charge Two:  Study the guardianship program implemented by the Department of Aging and Disabilities and the Department of Adult Protective Services, including the efficiency and effectiveness of the program, the relationship between the two agencies, the appropriate rights for parents, and whether clients and their assets are adequately protected.

 

Witnesses who registered and testified are shown on the attached list.

 

The chair announced that the next meeting will be held on Thursday, August, 26th at 10:30 a.m. at the San Antonio City Council Chamber.  The Committee will be addressing Charge Three relating to information sharing among state agencies and courts serving at-risk children and youth.  

 

There being no further business, at 5:11 p.m. Senator Wentworth moved that the Committee stand recessed subject to the call of the chair.  Without objection, it was so ordered.
