Pursuant to suspension of Senate Rule 11.10 and 11.18, a public hearing of the Senate Committee on Education was held on Friday, May 8, 2009, at Senator Shapiro's Desk.

Senator Patrick called the meeting to order at 1:50 p.m.  There being a quorum present, the following business was transacted: 

 

As a matter of pending business, the chair laid out HB 3 and the substitute that was previously adopted.  Senator Averitt moved that HB 3 do not pass but that CSHB 3 be reported back to the Senate with the recommendation that it do pass and be printed.  The motion carried with a record vote of 5 ayes, 0 nay, 0 present not voting, and 4 absent.  

 

As a matter of pending business, the chair laid out HB 772.  Senator Van de Putte moved that HB 772 be reported favorably to the Senate with the recommendation that it do pass and be printed.  The motion carried with a record vote of 5 ayes, 0 nay, 0 present not voting, and 4 absent.  Senator Van de Putte moved that the bill be recommended for placement on the Local & Uncontested Calendar; without objection, it was so ordered.    

 

As a matter of pending business, the chair laid out HB 1332.  Senator Davis moved that HB 1332 be reported favorably to the Senate with the recommendation that it do pass and be printed.  The motion carried with a record vote of 5 ayes, 0 nay, 0 present not voting, and 4 absent.  Senator Van de Putte moved that the bill be recommended for placement on the Local & Uncontested Calendar; without objection, it was so ordered.    

 

As a matter of pending business, the chair laid out HB 1365.  Senator Van de Putte moved adoption of the committee substitute that was previously sent up; without objection, it was so ordered.  Senator Van de Putte moved that HB 1365 do not pass but that CSHB 1365 be reported back to the Senate with the recommendation that it do pass and be printed.  The motion carried with a record vote of 5 ayes, 0 nay, 0 present not voting, and 4 absent.  Senator Van de Putte moved that the bill be recommended for placement on the Local & Uncontested Calendar; without objection, it was so ordered.        

 

As a matter of pending business, the chair laid out HB 2263.  Senator Averitt moved that HB 2263 be reported favorably to the Senate with the recommendation that it do pass and be printed.  The motion carried with a record vote of 5 ayes, 0 nay, 0 present not voting, and 4 absent.  Senator Davis moved that the bill be recommended for placement on the Local & Uncontested Calendar; without objection, it was so ordered. 

 

As a matter of pending business, the chair laid out HB 2512.  Senator Davis moved adoption of the committee substitute that was previously sent up; without objection, it was so ordered.  Senator Davis moved that HB 2512 do not pass but that CSHB 2512 be reported back to the Senate with the recommendation that it do pass and be printed.  The motion carried with a record vote of 5 ayes, 0 nay, 0 present not voting, and 4 absent.  Senator Davis moved that the bill be recommended for placement on the Local & Uncontested Calendar; without objection, it was so ordered. 

 

As a matter of pending business, the chair laid out HB 2542.  Senator Van de Putte moved that HB 2542 be reported favorably to the Senate with the recommendation that it do pass and be printed.  The motion carried with a record vote of 5 ayes, 0 nay, 0 present not voting, and 4 absent.  Senator Van de Putte moved that the bill be recommended for placement on the Local & Uncontested Calendar; without objection, it was so ordered.   

 

As a matter of pending business, the chair laid out SB 688.  Senator Van de Putte moved that SB 688 do not pass but that CSSB 688 be reported back to the Senate with the recommendation that it do pass and be printed.  The motion carried with a record vote of 5 ayes, 0 nay, 0 present not voting, and 4 absent.  Senator Van de Putte moved that the bill be recommended for placement on the Local & Uncontested Calendar; without objection, it was so ordered. 

 

There being no further business, at 1:57 p.m. Senator Patrick moved that the Committee stand recessed subject to the call of the chair.  Without objection, it was so ordered.
