R E S O L U T I O N
         WHEREAS, Scott A. Holt is retiring from the Marine Science
  Institute of The University of Texas at Austin in 2009, drawing to a
  close a notable career with that institution that has spanned
  nearly 3-1/2 decades; and
         WHEREAS, Mr. Holt studied wildlife and fisheries at Texas A&M
  University, earning his bachelor's degree in 1969 and his master's
  degree seven years later; he began working at UT's Marine Science
  Institute in 1974, and he is retiring as a research associate; and
         WHEREAS, This distinguished scientist's research interests
  cover a variety of topics within the subjects of fisheries and
  ecology, including studying the interrelationship between fish and
  their habitats; he has authored or coauthored 23 scientific papers,
  3 book chapters, and numerous technical reports; and
         WHEREAS, Mr. Holt has also worked with fishermen along the
  Gulf of Mexico on research projects; his work has been funded by the
  NOAA Texas Sea Grant College Program, the Saltwater-fisheries
  Enhancement Association, the Coastal Conservation Association, the
  Gulf States Marine Fisheries Commission, and the Sid W. Richardson
  Foundation; moreover, he has been an adjunct faculty member at
  Texas A&M University--Corpus Christi, and he has been involved in
  public service in Port Aransas; and
         WHEREAS, Scott Holt's dedication, expertise, and
  intellectual curiosity have led to a deeper understanding of the
  fish populations and habitats of the Gulf Coast region of Texas, and
  he may indeed reflect with pride on a career well-spent as he
  embarks on the next exciting chapter of his life; now, therefore, be
  it
         RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 81st Texas
  Legislature hereby congratulate Scott A. Holt on his retirement
  from the Marine Science Institute of The University of Texas at
  Austin and extend to him sincere best wishes for continued success
  and happiness; and, be it further
         RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
  prepared for Mr. Holt as an expression of high regard by the Texas
  House of Representatives.
