R E S O L U T I O N
|
|
|
WHEREAS, Scott A. Holt is retiring from the Marine Science |
|
|
Institute of The University of Texas at Austin in 2009, drawing to a |
|
|
close a notable career with that institution that has spanned |
|
|
nearly 3-1/2 decades; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, Mr. Holt studied wildlife and fisheries at Texas A&M |
|
|
University, earning his bachelor's degree in 1969 and his master's |
|
|
degree seven years later; he began working at UT's Marine Science |
|
|
Institute in 1974, and he is retiring as a research associate; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, This distinguished scientist's research interests |
|
|
cover a variety of topics within the subjects of fisheries and |
|
|
ecology, including studying the interrelationship between fish and |
|
|
their habitats; he has authored or coauthored 23 scientific papers, |
|
|
3 book chapters, and numerous technical reports; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, Mr. Holt has also worked with fishermen along the |
|
|
Gulf of Mexico on research projects; his work has been funded by the |
|
|
NOAA Texas Sea Grant College Program, the Saltwater-fisheries |
|
|
Enhancement Association, the Coastal Conservation Association, the |
|
|
Gulf States Marine Fisheries Commission, and the Sid W. Richardson |
|
|
Foundation; moreover, he has been an adjunct faculty member at |
|
|
Texas A&M University--Corpus Christi, and he has been involved in |
|
|
public service in Port Aransas; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, Scott Holt's dedication, expertise, and |
|
|
intellectual curiosity have led to a deeper understanding of the |
|
|
fish populations and habitats of the Gulf Coast region of Texas, and |
|
|
he may indeed reflect with pride on a career well-spent as he |
|
|
embarks on the next exciting chapter of his life; now, therefore, be |
|
|
it |
|
|
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 81st Texas |
|
|
Legislature hereby congratulate Scott A. Holt on his retirement |
|
|
from the Marine Science Institute of The University of Texas at |
|
|
Austin and extend to him sincere best wishes for continued success |
|
|
and happiness; and, be it further |
|
|
RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be |
|
|
prepared for Mr. Holt as an expression of high regard by the Texas |
|
|
House of Representatives. |
