| WHEREAS, In the nearly three-year period since it was | ||
| founded, the Bedichek Junior Marine Corps has proven to be a | ||
| positive force in helping students at Bedichek Middle School in | ||
| Austin prepare for the future; and | ||
| WHEREAS, Created in 2006, the Bedichek Junior Marine Corps is | ||
| designed to instill the values of citizenship, service, and | ||
| personal responsibility in its cadets as well as provide them with a | ||
| sense of accomplishment; the program is open to Bedichek students | ||
| in the sixth through eighth grades and helps participants develop | ||
| leadership skills, strengthen their character, and learn effective | ||
| self-discipline; the cadets are guided by Staff Sergeant Darrick | ||
| Norton, a former marine and a member of the school's faculty; and | ||
| WHEREAS, This innovative program requires its cadets to pass | ||
| all their courses, demonstrate high moral standards, and adhere to | ||
| a strict code of conduct; no commitment to future military service | ||
| is required of BJMC cadets, and the lessons taught by the program | ||
| are intended to benefit them in all walks of life; and | ||
| WHEREAS, The Bedichek Junior Marine Corps program helps young | ||
| people develop a range of admirable skills and values, and it is a | ||
| pleasure to recognize its worthwhile achievements; now, therefore, | ||
| be it | ||
| RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 81st Texas | ||
| Legislature hereby honor the Bedichek Junior Marine Corps for its | ||
| contribution to the development of informed, responsible citizens | ||
| and extend to all those involved with the program sincere best | ||
| wishes for continued success; and, be it further | ||
| RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be | ||
| prepared for the program as an expression of high regard by the | ||
| Texas House of Representatives. | ||
