A BILL TO BE ENTITLED
 
AN ACT
  relating to the selection of hosting locations for certain
  University Interscholastic League extracurricular competitions.
         BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS:
         SECTION 1.  Subchapter D, Chapter 33, Education Code, is
  amended by adding Section 33.0831 to read as follows:
         Sec. 33.0831.  SELECTION OF LOCATIONS FOR CERTAIN
  EXTRACURRICULAR ACTIVITY COMPETITIONS. (a)  This section applies
  to extracurricular athletic, academic, or musical activities
  sponsored or sanctioned by the University Interscholastic League.
         (b)  Except as provided by Subsection (d), the University
  Interscholastic League may not select a location to host a regional
  or statewide competition for an extracurricular activity if the
  location served as host for the same competition during the
  preceding year.
         (c)  The University Interscholastic League may not select a
  location to host a regional or statewide competition for an
  extracurricular activity unless the infrastructure and capacity of
  the location's facilities are sufficient to serve the needs of the
  competition.
         (d)  Subsection (b) does not prohibit the University
  Interscholastic League from selecting a location that served as
  host during the preceding year if an alternative location is not
  available.
         SECTION 2.  Section 33.0831, Education Code, as added by
  this Act, applies beginning with the 2010-2011 school year.
         SECTION 3.  This Act takes effect September 1, 2009.
