Pursuant to HCR 70, a public hearing of the Select Committee on Public School Accountability was held on Monday, July 14, 2008, in Brownsville, Texas.

Representative Eissler called the meeting to order at 8:05 a.m.  There being a quorum present, the following business was transacted: 

 

Susan Lewis moved adoption of the minutes from the previous hearing held on June 16 2008; without objection, it was so ordered. 

 

Senator Shapiro and Representative Eissler, as Co-Chairs, shared presiding duties throughout the hearing.

 

Senator Shapiro and Representative Eissler made opening remarks to the Committee.

 

The Chair recognized the following persons to make opening remarks:  Senator Eddie Lucio,  Representative Eddie Lucio,  Representative Rene Oliveira,  Deputy Commissioner Beto Gonzalez, and Superintendent Dr. Hector Gonzales.

 

At 12:13 p.m. Representative Eissler opened public testimony.

 

Witnesses testifying and registering are shown on the attached list.

 

At 1:25 p.m. Senator Shapiro assumed the Chair.

 

At 1:54 p.m. Representative Eissler resumed the Chair.

 

There being no further business, at 3:20 p.m. Representative Eissler moved that the Committee stand recessed subject to the call of the chair.  Without objection, it was so ordered.
