Pursuant to a notice posted in accordance with Senate Rule 11.18, a public hearing of the Senate Committee on Health & Human Services was held on Tuesday, September 16, 2008, in the Capitol Extension, Room E1.036, at Austin, Texas.

A joint hearing of the Senate Committee on Health and Human Services and the Senate Committee on Finance was held.  Senator Ogden and Senator Nelson served as Co-chairs, and shared presiding duties.  The following was transacted:

 

Senator Ogden called the Senate Committee on Finance to order at 9:00 a.m.

 

Senator Nelson called the Senate Committee on Health and Human Services to order at 9:02 a.m.

 

Senator Nelson and Senator Ogden made opening remarks regarding Joint Charge #1 relating to a review of Medicaid provider reimbursement rate methodologies, and regarding the Cancer Prevention and Research Institute of Texas. 

 

The chair opened the floor to invited testimony on Joint Charge #1 and the Cancer Prevention and Research Institute of Texas.

 

Witnesses registering and testifying are shown on the attached list.

 

Senator Deuell assumed the chair at 11:43 a.m.

 

Senator Nelson resumed the chair at 11:50 a.m.

 

The roll was called for the Senate Committee on Health and Human Services, and a quorum was established at 12:05 p.m.

 

The chair opened the floor to public testimony on Joint Charge #1 and the Cancer Prevention and Research Institute of Texas.

Senator Deuell assumed the chair at 12:55 p.m.

 

Senator Nelson resumed the chair at 1:01 p.m.

 

The chair moved that public testimony be closed; without objection, it was so ordered.

 

There being no further business, at 2:30 p.m. Senator Nelson moved that the Senate Committee on Health and Human Services stand recessed subject to the call of the chair.  Without objection, it was so ordered.  There being no further business, at 2:30 p.m. Senator Zaffirini moved that the Senate Committee on Finance stand recessed subject to the call of the chair.  Without objection, it was so ordered.
