Pursuant to a notice posted in accordance with Senate Rule 11.18, a public hearing of the Senate Committee on Health & Human Services was held on Wednesday, May 28, 2008, in the Capitol Extension, Room E1.036, at Austin, Texas.

The chair called the meeting to order at 9:06 a.m.  There being no quorum present, the following business was transacted: 

 

The Committee met in a joint hearing with the Senate Committee on International Relations and Trade.  Both Chairman Lucio and Chairwoman Nelson presided over the hearing.

 

The chair welcomed members and guests and made opening remarks on Joint Charge #2 relating to the Healthcare Workforce.

 

The chair opened the floor to invited testimony on Joint Charge #2.

 

Witnesses registering and testifying are shown on the attached list.

 

At 11:30 a.m. Senator Nelson assumed the chair. 

 

At 11:35 a.m. Senator Lucio resumed the chair. 

 

At 12:50 p.m. Senator Nelson moved that the Committee stand in recess until the conclusion of the Health and Human Services Hearing on Charge #10 relating to Health Enterprise Zones; without objection, it was so ordered.  At 12:50 p.m. Senator Lucio moved that the Senate Committee on International Relations and Trade stand in recess until 1:30 p.m.; without objection, it was so ordered.

 

At 2:13 p.m. the Committee reconvened. 

 

Witnesses providing public testimony who registered and testified are shown on the attached list.

 

At 2:55 p.m. Senator Nelson assumed the chair. 

 

At 3:05 p.m. Senator Shapleigh assumed the chair. 

 

At 3:10 p.m. Senator Lucio resumed the chair. 

 

At 3:12 p.m. Senator Nelson assumed the chair. 

 

At 3:25 p.m. Senator Shapleigh assumed the chair. 

 

At 3:35 p.m. Senator Lucio resumed the chair. 

 

The chair moved that the public testimony be closed; without objection, it was so ordered. 

 

There being no further business, at 4:15 p.m. Senator Nelson moved that the Committee stand recessed subject to the call of the chair.  Without objection, it was so ordered.  There being no further business, at 4:15 p.m. Senator Lucio moved that the Senate Committee on International Relations and Trade stand recessed subject to the call of the chair.  Without objection, it was so ordered.
