Pursuant to suspension of Senate Rules 11.10 & 11.18, a public hearing of the Senate Committee on Government Organization was held on Tuesday, March 20, 2007, in the Senate Chamber, at Senator Ellis' desk at Austin, Texas.

The chair called the meeting to order at 12:30 p.m.  There being a quorum present, the following business was transacted: 

 

The chair called up SB 555.  Senator Whitmire moved that SB 555 be reported favorably to the Senate with the recommendation that it do pass and be printed.  The motion carried with a record vote of 5 ayes, 0 nay, 0 present not voting, and 2 absent.  Senator Nelson moved that the bill be recommended for placement on the Local & Uncontested Calendar; without objection, it was so ordered. 

 

The chair called up SB 393.  Senator Jackson moved that SB 393 be reported favorably to the Senate with the recommendation that it do pass and be printed.  The motion carried with a record vote of 5 ayes, 0 nay, 0 present not voting, and 2 absent. 

 

Senator Jackson assumed the chair at 12:32 p.m.

 

The chair called up CSSB 831. Senator Ellis moved that SB 831 do not pass, but that the substitute adopted in lieu thereof be reported favorably to the Senate with the recommendation that is do pass and be printed. The motion carried with a record vote of 5 ayes, 0 nay, 0 present not voting, and 2 absent. 

 

Senator Ellis moved that the bill be recommended for placement on the Local & Uncontested Calendar; without objection, it was so ordered. 

 

 

At 12:32 p.m. Senator Ellis resumed the chair. 

 

There being no further business, at 12:32 p.m. Senator Ellis moved that the Committee stand recessed subject to the call of the chair.  Without objection, it was so ordered.
