Pursuant to a notice posted in accordance with Senate Rule 11.18, a public hearing of the Senate Committee on Jurisprudence was held on Monday, June 16, 2008, in the Fort Worth City Council Chamber.

The Chair called the meeting to order at 10:00 a.m.  The following business was transacted: 

 

The Chair made opening remarks.

 

The Chair laid out Interim Charge Three:  Examine the role of heir finders in Texas and make recommendations regarding professional standards and fees for heir finders.

Witnesses are shown on the attached list.

 

The Chair laid out Interim Charge Two:  Study the management and storage of adoption records, including the costs and benefits of converting records into digital format. Study ways to increase access by adopted persons and their children and spouses to important family medical history information and ensure that medical history information is updated, while maintaining privacy and anonymity of records. 

 

Witnesses are shown on the attached list.

 

The Chair announced that the next meeting will be held on Wednesday, July 16th in Edinburg, Texas. 

 

There being no further business, at 11:44 a.m. Senator Carona moved that the Committee stand recessed subject to the call of the chair.  Without objection, it was so ordered.
