Pursuant to a notice posted in accordance with Senate Rule 11.18, a public hearing of the Senate Committee on International Relations & Trade was held on Wednesday, June 18, 2008, in the Capitol Extension, Room E1.012 at Austin, Texas.

The chair called the meeting to order at 9:08 a.m.  There being a quorum present, the following business was transacted: 

 

 

Senator Seliger moved adoption of the minutes from the previous hearing held on May 28, 2008; without objection, it was so ordered. 

 

The chair opened the hearing to invited testimony on Charges #1 and #2:

 

1. Review state and local policies relating to development and growth in rural and unincorporated regions of the state. Work with housing advocates, county organizations and appropriate officials to assess the proliferation of substandard housing in rural and unincorporated areas.

 

2. Determine the appropriateness of and make recommendations on the existing extraterritorial jurisdiction authority currently granted under colonia prevention measures along the border region.

 

The chair closed invited testimony and then opened the hearing to public testimony on Charges #1 and #2.

 

Witnesses testifying and registering on the charges are shown on the attached list. 

 

The chair moved that the public testimony be closed; without objection, it was so ordered. 

 

There being no further business, at 1:26 p.m. Senator Lucio, Jr. moved that the Committee stand recessed subject to the call of the chair.  Without objection, it was so ordered.
