Pursuant to a notice posted in accordance with Senate Rule 11.18, a public hearing of the Senate Committee on Education was held on Thursday, May 3, 2007, in the Capitol Extension, Room E1.028, at Austin, Texas.

The chair called the meeting to order at 8:31 a.m.  The following business was transacted: 

 

The chair laid out SB 724 and recognized the author, Senator Lucio, Jr., to explain the bill.  Senator Janek sent up a committee substitute; the chair recognized Senator Lucio, Jr. to explain the difference between the committee substitute and the senate bill as filed. 

 

The chair laid out SB 118 and recognized Senator Janek, in the absence of the author, to explain the bill. 

 

The chair opened public testimony for SB 724 and SB 118.  Witnesses testifying and registering on the bills are shown on the attached list. 

 

At 8:45 a.m. Senator Janek assumed the chair. 

 

At 8:58 a.m. Senator Shapiro resumed the chair. 

 

Senator Janek sent up a committee substitute to SB 118; the chair recognized Senator Janek to explain the difference between the committee substitute and the senate bill as filed. 

 

At 9:32 a.m. Senator Janek assumed the chair. 

 

At 10:16 a.m. Senator Patrick assumed the chair. 

 

The chair moved that the public testimony on SB 724 and SB 118 be closed; without objection, it was so ordered.  There being no further business, at 10:32 a.m. Senator Patrick moved that the Committee stand recessed subject to the call of the chair.  Without objection, it was so ordered.
