Pursuant to a notice posted in accordance with Senate Rule 11.18, a public hearing of the Senate Committee on Education was held on Thursday, March 29, 2007, in the Capitol Extension, Room E1.028, at Austin, Texas.

The chair called the meeting to order at 9:07 a.m.  The following business was transacted: 

 

The chair laid out SB 1506 and recognized the author, Senator Janek, to explain the bill.  Senator Janek sent up a committee substitute; the chair recognized Senator Janek to explain the difference between the committee substitute and the senate bill as filed.  Witnesses testifying and registering on the bill are shown on the attached list. 

 

At 9:42 a.m. Senator Patrick assumed the chair. 

 

The chair left SB 1506 pending.

 

At 9:45 a.m. The chair moved that the committee stand recessed until 30 minutes after adjournment of the Senate; without objection, it was so ordered.

 

At 2:04 p.m. the committee reconvened.   

 

The chair laid out SB 1506.

 

The chair moved that the public testimony be closed; without objection, it was so ordered. 

The chair moved that SB 1506 be left pending; without objection, it was so ordered.

 

At 3:51 p.m. the committee stood at ease.

 

At 3:52 p.m. the committee reconvened. 

 

At 3:52 p.m. Senator Van de Putte assumed the chair. 

 

As a matter of pending business, the chair laid out SB 1506 and reopened public testimony on the bill. 

 

At 5:01 p.m. Senator Shapiro resumed the chair. 

 

The chair moved that the public testimony be closed; without objection, it was so ordered. 

 

The chair left SB 1506 pending.

 

There being no further business, at 6:46 p.m. Senator Shapiro moved that the Committee stand recessed subject to the call of the chair.  Without objection, it was so ordered.
