Pursuant to suspension of Senate Rule 11.18, a public hearing of the Senate Committee on Administration was held on Monday, January 22, 2007, in E1.714.

The chair called the meeting to order at 2:58 p.m.  There being a quorum present, the following business was transacted: 

 

The Committee discussed policy recommendations regarding resolutions on the Senate Floor.  A list of recommendations was approved by the Committee to send to the Senate Caucus for consideration.

 

Senator Whitmire asked that a letter be sent out to all Senate Offices reminding them not to smoke directly outside the East doors of the Capitol.

 

At 3:29 p.m. Senator Seliger assumed the chair. 

 

The chair laid out SJR 11 and recognized the author, Senator Brimer, to explain the bill. 

 

There being no one wishing to testify for, on, or against SJR 11, Senator Brimer moved that SJR 11 be reported favorably to the Senate with the recommendation that it do pass and be printed.  The motion carried with a record vote of 5 ayes, 0 nay, 1 present not voting, and 1 absent.

 

 

 

The chair laid out SB 259 and recognized the author, Senator Brimer, to explain the bill. 

 There being no one wishing to testify for, on, or against SB 259, Senator Brimer moved that SB 259 be reported favorably to the Senate with the recommendation that it do pass and be printed.  The motion carried with a record vote of 6 ayes, 0 nay, 0 present not voting, and 1 absent. 

 

 

At 3:36 p.m. Senator Brimer resumed the chair. 

 

There was a discussion about the Senate paying it's portion of the Council of State Government's dues.  Senator Brimer asked that more research on the subject be done so that it could be discussed and decided upon at the next Administration Committee hearing.

 

 

There being no further business, at 3:47 p.m. Senator Brimer moved that the Committee stand recessed subject to the call of the chair.  Without objection, it was so ordered.
