R E S O L U T I O N
         WHEREAS, Country music singer and songwriter Kacey Musgraves
  of Mineola was one of 10 performers to be selected as finalists on
  the fifth season of the Nashville Star television talent
  competition; and
         WHEREAS, A 2006 graduate of Mineola High School, Kacey
  Musgraves first garnered fame as a yodeler, learning her craft from
  Fort Worth's Janet McBride, the "Yodel Queen of Texas"; Ms.
  Musgraves performed at the Black Tie and Boots Inaugural Ball in
  Washington, D.C., in January 2000, with Ray Benson and Asleep at the
  Wheel and in the Wild West Show at the 2002 Winter Olympics in Utah;
  moreover, Ms. Musgraves yodeled for a national audience on NBC's
  Today Show during the Olympics; and
         WHEREAS, Ms. Musgraves has earned a number of well-deserved
  honors through the years; she won the International Youth Yodeling
  Championship in 2001 and the Patsy Montana National Yodeling
  Championship in 2002; that same year, she also became the youngest
  person ever to win the Yodeler of the Year Award at the Will Rogers
  Cowboy Awards; and
         WHEREAS, At the age of 18, this talented young Texan has
  already made a name for herself as a country music recording artist;
  her first CD, Movin' On, was released in 2002 and was named Teen
  Album of the Year by the Lone Star Music Association; her second CD,
  Wanted: One Good Cowboy, was chosen as the 2003 Young Adult Album of
  the Year and the opening track, "Life of the Old Cowhand," written
  by Ms. Musgraves and Miranda Lambert, was selected as the 2003 Young
  Adult Song of the Year; and
         WHEREAS, A gifted performer on the guitar, mandolin, and
  harmonica as well as a wonderful singer, Ms. Musgraves shared her
  considerable talents with a national audience when she was chosen
  as one of 10 finalists out of 20,000 aspiring performers for the
  Nashville Star television series on the USA Network; her
  appearances on the show have since gained her new fans from all over
  the world; and
         WHEREAS, A proud native of East Texas, Kacey Musgraves is a
  wonderfully talented and energetic young woman, and her spirit,
  enthusiasm, and creativity are an inspiration to a great many
  Texans; now, therefore, be it
         RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 80th Texas
  Legislature hereby congratulate Kacey Musgraves for her appearance
  as a finalist on Nashville Star and extend sincere best wishes to
  her for continued success at the beginning of what promises to be a
  stellar musical career; and, be it further
         RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
  prepared for Ms. Musgraves as an expression of high regard by the
  Texas House of Representatives.
