R E S O L U T I O N
         WHEREAS, Dr. Carolyn R. Carman-Merrifield has distinguished
  herself as an outstanding optometrist and valued member of the
  Mansfield community whose professional achievements have earned
  the respect and admiration of all who know her; and
         WHEREAS, The owner of Low Vision Centers of Texas, Dr.
  Carman-Merrifield specializes in treating individuals who suffer
  from low vision as well as those who have experienced traumatic
  brain injury, and she has provided exemplary care to her patients
  for nearly a quarter-century; and
         WHEREAS, Dr. Carman-Merrifield's expertise has earned her
  two separate tenures on the Texas Optometry Board; she was
  initially a member of the board from 1995 to 2001, and she is
  currently serving in that capacity at the behest of Governor Rick
  Perry, who reappointed her in March 2006; in addition, Dr.
  Carman-Merrifield is the former director of the Dallas Services for
  Visually Impaired Children Low Vision Clinic, and she has chaired
  the Neuro-Optometry Project for the American Optometric
  Association; she has served on the board of the Texas Optometric
  Association and is a noted authority in her field, having lectured
  extensively and authored or contributed to a number of scholarly
  works in her area of specialization; and
         WHEREAS, This esteemed practitioner attended Central
  Michigan University and the University of South Florida,
  participating in cheerleading at both schools, and went on to
  become a professional cheerleader with the Tampa Bay Wowdies; she
  studied at the Southern College of Optometry from 1979 to 1983,
  earning the Benny McDaniel Low Vision Award, and she performed her
  residency the following year at the V.A. Medical Center in Kansas
  City, Missouri; and
         WHEREAS, Dr. Carman-Merrifield has been named Physician of
  the Year by the Texas Rehabilitation Association as well as Young
  Optometrist of the Year by the Texas Optometric Association; in all
  her endeavors, she enjoys the love and support of her children,
  Micayla, Andre, and Brenna; and
         WHEREAS, Dr. Carman-Merrifield has demonstrated admirable
  commitment and skill in her chosen profession, and her work will be
  of lasting benefit to the residents of the Lone Star State; now,
  therefore, be it
         RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 80th Texas
  Legislature hereby honor Dr. Carolyn Carman-Merrifield for her many
  professional achievements and extend to her best wishes for
  continued success and happiness; and, be it further
         RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
  prepared for Dr. Carman-Merrifield as an expression of high regard
  by the Texas House of Representatives.
