R E S O L U T I O N
|
|
|
WHEREAS, Dr. Carolyn R. Carman-Merrifield has distinguished |
|
|
herself as an outstanding optometrist and valued member of the |
|
|
Mansfield community whose professional achievements have earned |
|
|
the respect and admiration of all who know her; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, The owner of Low Vision Centers of Texas, Dr. |
|
|
Carman-Merrifield specializes in treating individuals who suffer |
|
|
from low vision as well as those who have experienced traumatic |
|
|
brain injury, and she has provided exemplary care to her patients |
|
|
for nearly a quarter-century; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, Dr. Carman-Merrifield's expertise has earned her |
|
|
two separate tenures on the Texas Optometry Board; she was |
|
|
initially a member of the board from 1995 to 2001, and she is |
|
|
currently serving in that capacity at the behest of Governor Rick |
|
|
Perry, who reappointed her in March 2006; in addition, Dr. |
|
|
Carman-Merrifield is the former director of the Dallas Services for |
|
|
Visually Impaired Children Low Vision Clinic, and she has chaired |
|
|
the Neuro-Optometry Project for the American Optometric |
|
|
Association; she has served on the board of the Texas Optometric |
|
|
Association and is a noted authority in her field, having lectured |
|
|
extensively and authored or contributed to a number of scholarly |
|
|
works in her area of specialization; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, This esteemed practitioner attended Central |
|
|
Michigan University and the University of South Florida, |
|
|
participating in cheerleading at both schools, and went on to |
|
|
become a professional cheerleader with the Tampa Bay Wowdies; she |
|
|
studied at the Southern College of Optometry from 1979 to 1983, |
|
|
earning the Benny McDaniel Low Vision Award, and she performed her |
|
|
residency the following year at the V.A. Medical Center in Kansas |
|
|
City, Missouri; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, Dr. Carman-Merrifield has been named Physician of |
|
|
the Year by the Texas Rehabilitation Association as well as Young |
|
|
Optometrist of the Year by the Texas Optometric Association; in all |
|
|
her endeavors, she enjoys the love and support of her children, |
|
|
Micayla, Andre, and Brenna; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, Dr. Carman-Merrifield has demonstrated admirable |
|
|
commitment and skill in her chosen profession, and her work will be |
|
|
of lasting benefit to the residents of the Lone Star State; now, |
|
|
therefore, be it |
|
|
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 80th Texas |
|
|
Legislature hereby honor Dr. Carolyn Carman-Merrifield for her many |
|
|
professional achievements and extend to her best wishes for |
|
|
continued success and happiness; and, be it further |
|
|
RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be |
|
|
prepared for Dr. Carman-Merrifield as an expression of high regard |
|
|
by the Texas House of Representatives. |
