R E S O L U T I O N
         WHEREAS, A full and productive life filled with many loving
  friends and family members came to an end with the passing of
  longtime Dallas resident Norman Garvin Germany on September 21,
  2006; and
         WHEREAS, Born on July 10, 1921, in Grand Saline, Mr. Germany
  was the son of E. B. "Gene" Germany and Maggie Wilson Germany; a
  graduate of Highland Park High School and Southern Methodist
  University, he served his country as a member of the United States
  Army Air Corps before beginning his professional career; and
         WHEREAS, Entering the oil and gas business, Mr. Germany
  worked alongside his father, whose accomplishments in that industry
  had included cofounding Cranfill and Germany Oil Company, which was
  renamed E. B. Germany and Sons; Norman Germany specialized in the
  exploration and development of energy resources in Texas,
  Louisiana, and Mississippi, and his adept leadership enhanced the
  Germany family's reputation as innovative oil entrepreneurs; in the
  course of his career, he became the president and the chair of the
  board of directors for Germany Exploration and also chaired the
  board of directors for Energy Drilling Company; he was an active
  member of prominent industry organizations such as the Dallas
  Petroleum Club, All American Wildcatters, the American Association
  of Petroleum Landmen, and the Independent Petroleum Association of
  America; and
         WHEREAS, Mr. Germany undertook additional businesses and
  civic endeavors; he served as a member of the board of directors for
  Preston State Bank and played a prominent role in the restoration of
  the Eola Hotel and other historic buildings in Natchez,
  Mississippi; he was also devoted to his leisure activities, which
  included sailing, aviation, and cheering on the Dallas Cowboys and
  the sports teams of his alma mater, Southern Methodist University;
  and
         WHEREAS, Norman Garvin Germany brought an enthusiastic
  passion to all of his pursuits and to the time he spent with family
  and friends; the many professional achievements and meaningful
  relationships forged by this respected man are proof of his
  initiative and his concern for others and will serve as an
  inspiration to all those who were fortunate enough to have known
  him; now, therefore, be it
         RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 80th Texas
  Legislature hereby pay tribute to the life of Norman Garvin Germany
  and extend deepest condolences to the members of his family: to his
  wife of 67 years, Marjorie Forrest Germany; to his children, Jean
  Germany Bentley, Susie Germany, Patty Germany, and Forrest Germany
  and his wife, Debbie; to his grandchildren, Amye Tatum Johnson and
  her husband, Jeff, Ben Callan and his wife, Kelley, Laurie Callan
  Mitchell and her husband, Johnny, Gary Fulkerson and his wife,
  Lisa, Maggie Fulkerson Pieper, Paige Germany, Jennifer Germany
  Croswell and her husband, Bobby, Benjamin Germany, and Michael
  Germany; to his six great-grandchildren; and to the many other
  relatives and friends of this distinguished Texas business leader;
  and, be it further
         RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
  prepared for the members of his family and that when the Texas House
  of Representatives adjourns this day, it do so in memory of Norman
  Garvin Germany.
