         Pursuant to a notice posted in accordance with Senate Rule  
         11.18, a public hearing of the Senate Committee on Veteran  
         Affairs & Military Installations was held on Monday, May 23,  
         2005, in the Capitol Extension Auditorium at Austin, Texas.

         Senator Eliot Shapleigh, the acting chair, called the meeting to  
         order at 9:05 a.m.  There being a quorum present, the following  
         business was transacted:   
          
         The Committee met jointly with the Subcommittee on Base  
         Realignment and Closure and the House Defense Affairs and  
         State-Federal Relations Committee to discuss the 79th  
         Legislature's efforts to support Texas communities facing the  
         potential impact of the 5005 round of base realignment and  
         closure.  The Committee also heard from the Texas Military  
         Preparedness Commission. 
          
         There being no further business, at 9:34 a.m. Senator Shapleigh  
         moved that the Committee stand recessed subject to the call of  
         the chair.  Without objection, it was so ordered.
