Pursuant to a notice posted in accordance with Senate Rule 11.18, a public hearing of the Senate Committee on Health & Human Services was held on Tuesday, October 17, 2006, in the Senate Chamber at Austin, Texas.

The Chair called the meeting to order at 9:38 a.m.  The following business was transacted: 

 

The Committee met in a joint hearing with the Senate Committee on State Affairs.  Chairman Nelson and Chairman Duncan both presided over the hearing.

 

The Chairmen welcomed Committee members and gave opening remarks.  Chairman Nelson laid out joint interim charge # 2 regarding long term care and opened the floor to invited testimony.

 

Invited witnesses provided testimony and answered questions.

Invited witnesses testifying on joint interim charge # 2 are shown on the attached list.

 

Chairman Nelson moved that invited testimony be closed; without objection, it was so ordered.  Chairman Nelson opened the floor for public testimony on joint interim charge # 2. 

 

Public witnesses testified and answered questions on joint interim charge # 2. 

Public witnesses testifying and registering on joint interim charge # 2 are shown on the attached list.

 

Chairman Nelson moved to close testimony on joint interim charge # 2; without objection, it was so ordered.

 

At 1:17 PM Chairman Nelson moved that the Committee stand in recess until 1:45 PM; without objection, it was so ordered.

 

Chairman Nelson reconvened the Committee at 1:46 PM and laid out joint interim charge # 1 regarding pharmacy benefit managers.  Chairman Nelson opened the floor to invited testimony.

 

The invited witnesses provided testimony and answered questions.

Chairman Duncan moved that the invited testimony on joint interim charge # 1 be closed; without objection, it was so ordered.  Chairman Duncan opened the floor for public testimony on joint interim charge # 1.

Public witnesses on joint interim charge # 1 testifying and registering on joint interim charge # 1 are shown on the attached list.

 

Chairman Duncan moved that pubic testimony be closed; without objection it was so ordered.

 

There being no further business, at 6:02 P.M., Vice-Chairman Deuell moved that the Committee stand recessed subject to the call of the Chair.  Without objection, it was so ordered.
