Pursuant to a notice posted in accordance with Senate Rule 11.18, a public hearing of the Senate Committee on Finance was held on Tuesday, October 10, 2006, in the Capitol Extension, Room E1.036, at Austin, Texas.

Senator Zaffirini called the meeting to order at 9:38 a.m.  The following business was transacted: 

 

The Committee heard testimony regarding Committee Charge #9:  Determine the number of commercial and consumer transactions, including wire transfers, that occur in Texas.  Determine the amount of monies that are sent internationally from Texas.  Study the feasibility of creating a pilot program in Harris County that captures a percentage of revenues from such transactions, and request and Opinion from the Attorney General's office to pursue these revenues as a potential source for health care funding.  Witnesses testifying and registering on Committee Charge #9 are shown on the attached list.  The chair moved that the public testimony be closed; without objection, it was so ordered. 

 

Senator Ogden resumed the chair. 

 

The Committee heard testimony regarding Committee Charge #4:  Review health care funding, focusing on the Medicaid program, Medicare Part D, hospital reimbursements, and trauma and indigent care. 

 

Witnesses testifying and registering on Committee Charge #4 are shown on the attached list.  The chair moved that the public testimony be closed; without objection, it was so ordered.

 

There being no further business, at 12:56 p.m. Senator Ogden moved that the Committee stand recessed until 10:00 a.m., October 16, 2006.  Without objection, it was so ordered.
