FROM:
John S. O'Brien, Deputy Director, Legislative Budget Board
IN RE:
HB409 by Goodman (Relating to the appeal of certain orders regarding children in the conservatorship of the Department of Family and Protective Services.), As Introduced
No significant fiscal implication to the State is anticipated.
The bill addresses changes in the appellate procedure for appealing a parental termination case. The Department of Family Protective Services (DPFS) reports that the bill would allow some children who are currently in DFPS paid placements, whose adoptions placements were held up due to appeals, to be placed in adoptive placements sooner, which would result in some lower foster care costs. However, this legislation only applies to appeals filed after September 1, 2005.
Local Government Impact
No fiscal implication to units of local government is anticipated.
