R E S O L U T I O N
WHEREAS, Becky Duval Reese was inducted into the El Paso Commission for Women Hall of Fame on March 11, 2005; and WHEREAS, Established in 1985, the commission is composed of El Paso citizens who are committed to the pursuit of equal rights and responsibilities for all women; inductees to the organization's Hall of Fame are recognized in one of five categories, including arts, civic leadership, education, professional, and public service; and WHEREAS, Selected for the arts category, Ms. Reese is director of the El Paso Museum of Art and is widely acknowledged as one of the most gifted museum administrators in the Southwest; under her leadership, the museum has become the center of a widespread revitalization of the arts community in El Paso; and WHEREAS, With 25 years' experience working at art institutions, Ms. Reese has served as director and curator of the Williams Gallery at New Mexico State University, where she organized exhibitions and implemented public programs; she also distinguished herself as curator and assistant director at the former Huntington Art Gallery at The University of Texas at Austin; and WHEREAS, This esteemed professional has overseen the construction of a new building for the El Paso Museum of Art, which now boasts an exceedingly attractive and flexible interior space to house the university's permanent collection of local and regional contemporary art; Ms. Reese's knowledge of the art world and her ability to bring together diverse members of the community have enabled the museum to host significant traveling exhibitions, and her relationships with well-known artists have resulted in important loans such as "Vaquero" by Luis Jimenez; and WHEREAS, Ms. Reese graduated summa cum laude from New Mexico State University with a master's degree in art history, and she has published more than 30 exhibition catalogues and multiple articles on American art; and WHEREAS, The strength of our communities and the vitality of the State of Texas depend on the dedication of women like Becky Reese; her considerable talents and expertise have helped make the El Paso Museum of Art a vibrant and exciting cultural center, and it is a pleasure to join the commission in honoring her at this time; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 79th Texas Legislature hereby congratulate Becky Duval Reese on her induction into the El Paso Commission for Women Hall of Fame and extend to her sincere best wishes for the future; and, be it further RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be prepared for Ms. Reese as an expression of high regard by the Texas House of Representatives.
