R E S O L U T I O N
WHEREAS, Patricia D. Quinn was inducted into the El Paso
Commission for Women Hall of Fame on March 11, 2005; and
WHEREAS, Established in 1985, the commission is composed of
El Paso citizens who are committed to the pursuit of equal rights
and responsibilities for all women; inductees to the organization's
Hall of Fame are recognized in one of five categories, including
arts, civic leadership, education, professional, and public
service; and
WHEREAS, Selected for the civic leadership category, Mrs.
Quinn was honored for her extensive contributions to arts
organizations, educational opportunity, and science resources; she
received her bachelor's degree from Dunbarton College in
Washington, D.C., and completed graduate studies in engineering,
chemistry, physics, computers, and education at The University of
Texas at Austin, the University of Maryland, and The University of
Texas at El Paso; and
WHEREAS, In her professional life, Mrs. Quinn has worked as a
teacher and an analytical chemist with the U.S. Food and Drug
Administration; as a civic leader, she has served as an executive
officer for four of El Paso's most prestigious organizations, the
Woman's Department of the Chamber of Commerce, Woman's Club,
Insights El Paso Science Museum board, and the local auxiliary of
the Society of Professional Engineers; and
WHEREAS, Mrs. Quinn has distinguished herself as state
president and member of the state auxiliary of the Texas Society of
Professional Engineers; as chair of the ways and means committee,
she increased the scholarship funds provided to women engineering
students by nearly $40,000; a past president of the Insights Museum
board, she is currently the facility's volunteer education advisor
and science teacher; and
WHEREAS, This esteemed Texan is the author of two books, a
history of the auxiliary of the Texas Society of Professional
Engineers and a cookbook of traditional Texas recipes; an avid
supporter of the arts, Mrs. Quinn is also a dedicated contributor to
the El Paso Symphony, the Opera Association, Pro-Musica, and
Encore; and
WHEREAS, Supported by her loving husband and three sons,
Patricia Quinn possesses the kind of determination and commitment
on which the vitality of El Paso depends; she uses her considerable
talents to serve others, and it is a pleasure to join the commission
in honoring her at this time; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 79th Texas
Legislature hereby congratulate Patricia D. Quinn on her induction
into the El Paso Commission for Women Hall of Fame and extend to her
sincere best wishes for the future; and, be it further
RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
prepared for Mrs. Quinn as an expression of high regard by the Texas
House of Representatives.
