         Pursuant to a notice posted in accordance with Senate Rule  
         11.18, a public hearing of the Standing Senate Subcommittee on  
         Higher Education was held on Thursday, April 8, 2004, in the  
         Capitol Extension, Room E1.012, at Austin, Texas.

         The chair called the meeting to order at 9:15 a.m.  There being  
         a quorum present, the following business was transacted:   
          
         Senator Janek moved adoption of the minutes from the previous  
         hearing held on March 29, 2004; without objection, it was so  
         ordered.   
          
         Witnesses testifying and registering on the Undergraduate  
         Medical Academy at Prairie View A&M are shown on the attached  
         list.   
          
         Witnesses testifying and registering on Joint Admission Medical  
         Program (JAMP) are shown on the attached list.   
          
         Witnesses testifying and registering on Graduate Medical  
         Education (GME) are shown on the attached list. 
          
         At 10:57 a.m. Senator Van de Putte assumed the chair.  
          
         At 11:02 a.m. Senator West resumed the chair.   
          
         At 12:45 p.m. Senator West moved that the committee stand  
         recessed; without objection, it was so ordered.   
         At 1:00 p.m. the committee reconvened.

         are shown on the attached list. 
  
         Witnesses testifying and registering on the residency program  
         panel are shown on the attached list.    
          
         Witnesses testifying and registering on Charge #5 are shown on  
         the attached list.   
          
         The chair moved that the testimony be closed; without objection,  
         it was so ordered.   
          
         There being no further business, at 2:50 p.m. Senator West moved  
         that the Committee stand recessed subject to the call of the  
         chair.  Without objection, it was so ordered.
