Pursuant to a notice posted on April 4, 2003, the House
Committee on Border and International Affairs met in a public
hearing and was called to order by the chair, Representative
Chavez, at 8:26 a.m.
The roll was answered as follows:

Absent: Representatives Canales; Riddle (2).
A quorum was present.
SB 558
The chair laid out SB 558. Representative Castro offered an
amendment to the measure.
The amendment was adopted without objection. Representative
Castro moved that SB 558, as amended, be reported favorably to
the full house with the recommendation that it do pass and be
printed. The motion prevailed by the following record vote:
Ayes: Representatives Chavez; Griggs; Castro;
Merritt (4).
Nays: None (0).
Present, Not Voting: None (0).
Absent: Representatives Canales; Riddle (2).
HB 2634
The chair laid out HB 2634. The chair recognized Representative
Quintanilla to explain the measure. Testimony was taken. (See

Representative Merritt moved that HB 2634, without amendments,
be reported favorably to the full house with the recommendation
that it do pass and be printed and be sent to the Committee on
Local and Consent Calendars. The motion prevailed by the
