SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 1022
WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is pleased to
recognize Chante' B. Prox for her outstanding work as a
legislative aide in the office of Senator Royce West; and
WHEREAS, Chante' is leaving the Texas Senate to enter
The University of Texas School of Law; before joining Senator West's
office in 1998, she was employed by the Texas Department of
Protective and Regulatory Services in Dallas; she first served as a
child protective services specialist and then as a legal liaison;
and
WHEREAS, Chante' earned a bachelor of science degree from
Texas Woman's University in Denton in 1991 and a master of science
degree in social work from The University of Texas at Arlington
in 1998; she completed additional specialized training at
The University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center at Dallas;
and
WHEREAS, Chante's many responsibilities in Senator West's
office included legislative research, preparing briefing
documents, drafting bills, speech writing, and responding to
constituent inquiries; and
WHEREAS, She coordinated the District 23 Health and Human
Services Advisory Committee and represented the senator's office
at neighborhood associations, public schools, and crime watch
meetings; and
WHEREAS, During her tenure, she was involved in legislation
that provided up to $1,000 in financial assistance to grandparents
who are the primary caretakers of their grandchildren and legislation
to prevent and reduce abuse and neglect of the elderly in nursing
homes; she also served as the coordinator for the Dr. Emmett J. Conrad
Student Advisory Committee, which was established in 1996 and is
sponsored by Senator West; and
WHEREAS, Chante' is actively involved in community
activities and serves on the boards of a number of organizations;
in March of 2002, she received the Yvonne Ewell Emerging Black
Women Leaders Award for her community service and leadership; and
WHEREAS, Diligent, resourceful, and talented, Chante'
skillfully handled the multifaceted duties of a legislative aide
in the office of Senator West and ably assisted with the needs of
his constituents; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas,
78th Legislature, hereby commend Chante' B. Prox for her
exceptional contributions to the office of Senator Royce West
and extend to her best wishes for the future; and, be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for
her as an expression of high regard from the Texas Senate.
