R E S O L U T I O N
WHEREAS, On March 13, 2003, the El Paso Commission for Women is inducting Beatrice "Bitty" Gladstone into its Hall of Fame; and WHEREAS, Established in 1985, the commission is composed of El Paso citizens who are committed to the pursuit of equal rights and responsibilities for all women; inductees to the organization's Hall of Fame are recognized in one of five categories, including arts, civic leadership, education, professional, and public service; and WHEREAS, Selected for the civic leadership category, Mrs. Gladstone has given generously of her time and talents in support of a host of noteworthy El Paso organizations since she moved to the city in 1956; among the many programs that have benefited from her efforts over the years are the Community Health Fair, the Information and Referral Helpline, the Child Treatment Center, Women in Community Service, Hospice of El Paso, Chai Manor, the American Heart Association, and the American Cancer Society; and WHEREAS, Perhaps her most ambitious endeavor was spearheading the establishment of the Visiting Nurse Association, which was the city's first and only nonprofit home health care agency; the organization opened in 1967, with one patient, two nurses, and a director; since that time, it has grown to employ some 850 men and women and serves approximately 1,000 patients per day; and WHEREAS, The success of the State of Texas, the strength of our communities, and the overall vitality of American society depend on the dedication of people like Beatrice Gladstone, who use their considerable talents and resources to serve others, and it is a privilege to join in honoring her at this time; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 78th Texas Legislature hereby congratulate Beatrice "Bitty" Gladstone on her induction into the El Paso Commission for Women's Hall of Fame and extend to her sincere best wishes for continued success and happiness; and, be it further RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be prepared for Mrs. Gladstone as an expression of high regard by the Texas House of Representatives.
