         Pursuant to an announcement from the house floor on May 16,  
         2001, the House Committee on Ways & Means met in a public  
         hearing and was called to order by the chair, Representative  
         Oliveira, at 7:51 p.m. 
          
         The roll was answered as follows:

                   Keffer; Ramsay; Ritter (7). 
          
         Absent:   Representatives McCall; Craddick; Davis, Yvonne;

         The chair laid out SJR 6, the companion to HJR 25, in lieu of  
         the house joint resolution. 
          
         Representative Oliveira offered an amendment to the measure.  
          
         The amendment was adopted without objection. 
          
         Representative Bonnen moved that SJR 6, as amended, be reported  
         favorably to the full house with the recommendation that it do  
         pass and be printed. The motion prevailed by the following  
         record vote:  
          
         Ayes:               Representatives Oliveira; Bonnen; Craddick;  
                             Hartnett; Heflin; Keffer; Ramsay; Ritter  
                             (8).

         The chair laid out SB 174, the companion to HB 438, in lieu of  
         the house bill.

         Representative Hartnett offered an amendment to the measure.  
  
         The amendment was adopted without objection. 
          
         Representative Bonnen moved that SB 174, as amended, be reported  
         favorably to the full house with the recommendation that it do  
         pass and be printed. The motion prevailed by the following  
         record vote:
