         Pursuant to a notice posted on May 30, 2002, the House Committee  
         on Higher Education met in a public hearing and was called to  
         order by the chair, Representative Rangel, at 11:10 a.m. 
          
         The roll was answered as follows: 
          
         Present:  Representatives Rangel; Brown, Fred; Farabee; Reyna,  
                   Elvira; West, George "Buddy" (5). 
          
         Absent:   Representatives Goolsby; Jones, Jesse; Morrison; Uher  
                   (4). 
          
         A quorum was present. 
          
         Invited testimony was taken regarding the effects of  
         standardized testing on dyslexic students who are attempting to  
         enroll in institutions of higher education.  (See attached  
         witness list.)

         (Representative Jones, Jesse now present.) 
          
         Testimony was taken on Interim Charge Seven, "Evaluate the  
         implementation of SB 149, 75th Legislature, relating to  
         post-tenure review for faculty, and consider faculty workload  
         policies in determining the law's effectiveness."  (See attached  
         witness list.) 
          
         At 2:59 p.m., on the motion of the chair and without objection,  
         the meeting was adjourned subject to the call of the chair.
