The bill would amend the Penal Code by making the offense of false report
to a peace officer or law enforcement employee punishable as a state
jail felony if the person makes a false statement regarding a criminal
investigation of a felony.  Under current law, a false statement to a
peace officer or law enforcement employee regarding a criminal
investigation is punishable by a Class B misdemeanor.  The bill would
also amend the Penal Code by adding the offenses of false statement in
application for protective order, false report of family violence, and
false report of child abuse or neglect.

No significant fiscal implication to units of local government is
