R E S O L U T I O N
 1-1           WHEREAS, The Honorable Harold V. Dutton celebrates his
 1-2     birthday on Saturday, February 17, 2001, after having rendered
 1-3     exemplary service for many years in the Texas House of
 1-4     Representatives; and
 1-5           WHEREAS, Representative Dutton, having excelled during and
 1-6     upon graduation from Texas Southern University, parlayed his degree
 1-7     into a successful career with Conoco, Inc., and later still with
 1-8     the operation of a local television station; and
 1-9           WHEREAS, During the course of his study at the Thurgood
1-10     Marshall School of Law, he was inducted into "Who's Who in American
1-11     Colleges and Universities"; and
1-12           WHEREAS, He is now a respected attorney in Houston, Texas,
1-13     and has taught as an adjunct professor at his alma mater; and
1-14           WHEREAS, Representative Dutton continues to be a mainstay in
1-15     various community service organizations such as the Fifth Ward
1-16     Enrichment Association, The Boy Scouts, and the Julia C. Hester
1-17     House; and
1-18           WHEREAS, He sponsors several senior citizen groups in
1-19     District 142; and
1-20           WHEREAS, He is a devoted member of Our Mother of Mercy
1-21     Catholic Church; and
1-22           WHEREAS, Representative Dutton has served on several
1-23     committees in the house of representatives; he currently sits on
1-24     the House Calendars Committee, the Committee on Civil Practices,
 2-1     and the Select Committee on Constitutional Revision and is vice
 2-2     chair of the Public Education Committee and the Select Committee on
 2-3     Teacher's Health Insurance; and
 2-4           WHEREAS, Among many of his esteemed colleagues,
 2-5     Representative Dutton has stood out and led the way on initiatives
 2-6     including education reform, insurance, and civil rights; and
 2-7           WHEREAS, Representative Dutton is one of the best-liked
 2-8     members of the house, known for his dry wit and personable and
 2-9     gracious style; and
2-10           WHEREAS, Representative Dutton rules in the house of
2-11     representatives on his points of order, which have forced numerous
2-12     reforms; and
2-13           WHEREAS, Members of the house of representatives are
2-14     delighted during session when Representative Dutton's desk is
2-15     clear; now, therefore, be it
2-16           RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 77th Texas
2-17     Legislature warmly commend Representative Harold V. Dutton for his
2-18     great contributions to the State of Texas and offer joyous
2-19     felicitations on the occasion of his birthday; and, be it further
2-20           RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
2-21     prepared for the Honorable Harold V. Dutton as an expression of
2-22     high regard by the Texas House of Representatives.
