R E S O L U T I O N 1-1 WHEREAS, Family, friends, and fans were deeply saddened by 1-2 the passing of record producer Robert Earl Davis, Jr., on November 1-3 16, 2000, at the age of 30; and 1-4 WHEREAS, Commonly known as "DJ Screw," Mr. Davis was renowned 1-5 in hip-hop music circles for his unique production style, which 1-6 involved slowing songs to half-speed or less, often merging 1-7 multiple tracks and lyrics to create an inventive and original 1-8 sound; and 1-9 WHEREAS, His "screwed down" style brought to the forefront of 1-10 the music scene many rising rap stars, including such well-known 1-11 artists as Fat Pat, Lil' Keke, E.S.G., Yungstar, and Z-Ro; 1-12 acclaimed for his ability to manipulate every aspect of a record's 1-13 pitch and speed, Mr. Davis was often called on to produce a 1-14 "screwed" version of a new single to be released in conjunction 1-15 with the artist's original track; and 1-16 WHEREAS, A talented musician and promoter, Mr. Davis released 1-17 six full-length records and one single; among his most recognized 1-18 works are a trilogy titled 3 'N The Mornin', All Screwed Up, and 1-19 All Work, No Play; with the opening of Screwed Up Records and Tapes 1-20 in 1996, he also proved himself to be a successful businessman and 1-21 entrepreneur; and 1-22 WHEREAS, "DJ Screw" was recognized by many for changing the 1-23 face of Southern rap music, and his unique sound and innovative 1-24 techniques will be greatly missed by his many fans; now, therefore, 2-1 be it 2-2 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 77th Texas 2-3 Legislature hereby pay tribute to the life of Robert Earl Davis, 2-4 Jr., and extend sincere sympathy to the members of his family; and, 2-5 be it further 2-6 RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be 2-7 prepared for his family and that when the Texas House of 2-8 Representatives adjourns this day, it do so in memory of Robert 2-9 Earl Davis, Jr. Wilson _______________________________ Speaker of the House I certify that H.R.
