R E S O L U T I O N 1-1 WHEREAS, January 4, 2001, marked a truly significant 1-2 milestone in the life of our distinguished colleague, the Honorable 1-3 Anna Mowery, for on that date she celebrated her 70th birthday; and 1-4 WHEREAS, A native of Decatur, Texas, this esteemed individual 1-5 earned her bachelor's degree from Baylor University; she then 1-6 traveled to Edmond, Oklahoma, to attend Central State University, 1-7 and, after attaining her master's degree from that institution, she 1-8 demonstrated her characteristic good judgment and returned to Texas 1-9 just as quickly as she could; and 1-10 WHEREAS, Turning her talents to the political arena in 1975, 1-11 Mrs. Mowery boldly went where no woman had gone before by becoming 1-12 the first of her gender to serve as Tarrant County Republican 1-13 Chair, a position she held for two years; and 1-14 WHEREAS, Elected to the House of Representatives in 1988, she 1-15 hit the house floor running and has ably served her constituents 1-16 ever since; among the committees that have benefited from her 1-17 dedication and expertise are Land and Resource Management, Business 1-18 and Industry, and Elections, all of which she vice-chaired, in 1-19 addition to Appropriations, House Administration, and Labor and 1-20 Employment Relations; and 1-21 WHEREAS, Mrs. Mowery is undaunted by even the most 1-22 overwhelming of legislative assignments, as is evidenced by her 1-23 efforts as a member of the House Committee on Constitutional 1-24 Revision last session; and 2-1 WHEREAS, In spite of the fact that she has had a few more 2-2 years than most of her fellow representatives to gain recognition 2-3 for her work, Mrs. Mowery's extensive list of well-deserved 2-4 accolades is nonetheless impressive, and includes the Friend of 2-5 Hospice Award from the Texas and New Mexico hospice organizations, 2-6 the NFIB Guardian Award, and the 4-H Alumni Award; and 2-7 WHEREAS, Mrs. Mowery is an avid bridge player and also has a 2-8 fondness for fine wine; her enviable viticultural acumen has served 2-9 her well as the sponsor of legislation regarding the sale and 2-10 shipment of vintage spirits in the Lone Star State; and 2-11 WHEREAS, Beloved by her entire family, in which she takes 2-12 tremendous pride, Mrs. Mowery is supported in all her endeavors by 2-13 her devoted husband, Wesley, their four children, Jeanette, Tim, 2-14 Mark, and Marianne, and their grandchildren; and 2-15 WHEREAS, Although Mrs. Mowery's life now totals seven decades 2-16 and counting, her insight and diligence make her a valued and 2-17 respected member of this body, as well as an inspiration to her 2-18 fellow house members, many of whom are staying in shape trying to 2-19 keep up with her; now, therefore, be it 2-20 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 77th Texas 2-21 Legislature hereby belatedly congratulate the Honorable Anna Mowery 2-22 on the momentous occasion of her 70th birthday and extend to her 2-23 sincere best wishes for continued happiness in the years to come; 2-24 and, be it further RESOLVED, That an official copy of this 2-25 resolution be prepared for Mrs. Mowery as an expression of highest 2-26 regard by her colleagues in the Texas House of Representatives.
