                                 A JOINT RESOLUTION
 1-1     proposing a constitutional amendment increasing the number of state
 1-2     senators from 31 to 50.
 1-3           BE IT RESOLVED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS:
 1-4           SECTION 1. Section 2, Article III, Texas Constitution, is
 1-5     amended to read as follows:
 1-6           Sec. 2. (a)  The Senate shall consist of 50 [thirty-one]
 1-7     members.  The House of Representatives shall consist of 150
 1-8     members.
 1-9           (b)  Not later than the 30th day after the date of the
1-10     election at which an increase in the membership of the legislature
1-11     is approved, the governor shall convene the legislature in special
1-12     session to apportion the state into the appropriate number of
1-13     districts as provided by this constitution.
1-14           SECTION 2. This proposed constitutional amendment shall be
1-15     submitted to the voters at an election to be held November 6, 2001.
1-16     The ballot shall be printed to permit voting for or against the
1-17     proposition: "The constitutional amendment increasing the number of
1-18     state senators from 31 to 50."
